Gas Regulatory Authority Hosts the Jordanian Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission in Cairo

As part of the strong and ongoing cooperation between Gas Regulatory Authority and the Jordanian Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), along with Fajr Jordanian-Egyptian Gas Company, Eng. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, CEO of Gas Regulatory Authority, and his team hosted representatives from the Jordanian EMRC and Fajr Jordanian-Egyptian Gas Company at the Authority’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, housed in the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources building.

The delegation was led by Eng. Ziad Al-Sa’aydeh, CEO of the Jordanian EMRC, Eng. Fouad Rashad, CEO of Fajr Jordanian-Egyptian Gas Company, and Mr. Mohamed Al-Turabily, CEO of Natural Gas Development Company. Accompanying them was a high-level delegation of senior energy officials from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

 

The purpose of this visit was to reaffirm the constructive and cordial relations between the two nations and explore the latest technologies in the field of natural gas. The visit also aimed to exchange expertise and insights into the recent developments in the Egyptian gas market, ultimately strengthening collaboration between the major players in the natural gas sector in both Egypt and Jordan.

The visit commenced with a welcoming speech by Eng. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, in which he expressed his pleasure at this fruitful collaboration, hoping for its continuation and further development to yield tangible benefits on the ground.

Eng. Abdel Aziz and members of Gas Regulatory Authority then presented an overview of the Authority’s origins, role, objectives, and activities. They also introduced the Egyptian gas market, highlighting the key market players, their roles, rights, and obligations, and the regulatory framework for gas market activities from technical, economic, commercial, and contractual perspectives. Special emphasis was placed on Egypt’s recent success in supplying gas to areas not connected to the national grid through compressed natural gas (CNG) technology, alongside related safety and sustainability standards.

The presentation also highlighted the numerous achievements of the Authority since its establishment, along with a briefing on the important and distinguished regional and international relationships it has fostered. Moreover, a detailed explanation was provided on the Authority’s innovative new complaints system, currently being implemented to ensure all stakeholders in the Egyptian gas market have their rights protected with full transparency and fairness.

At the end of the visit, both sides agreed to strengthen their joint cooperation and maintain constant communication. They established a solid foundation for ongoing collaboration between the two bodies. Both parties emphasized the importance of maximizing the substantial capabilities of both Egypt and Jordan in the gas sector, noting that this future cooperation will yield significant benefits and bolster their capacities in this vital field.
