License is the legal document issued by The Gas Regulator and by which an entity can practice any of the gas market activities subject to regulation within the Arab Republic of Egypt. The license shall be issued after the verification of the technical, financial capability of the license applicant according to the requirements set forth by the Regulator and it defines the rights & obligations of the license holder “Licensee”.

The market activities that require licenses include activities related to Operation of gas Networks & Facilities as well as commercial activities as gas shipping and supply.

The GasReg Board of directors Approved granting the following licenses for the first phase of gas market regulation:

  • Transmission System Operator (TSO) License: License granted to a legal entity capable of managing & operating gas transmission system and allows the licensee to convey and dispatch gas through the national Transmission Network.
  • Distribution System Operator (DSO) License: License granted to a legal entity capable of managing & operating gas distribution system networks in accordance with the related concession agreement and allows to convey gas through a system of distribution pipes to any premises within an area authorized by the license.
  • Shipper: License granted to a legal entity to arrange with the operators of gas networks and facilities for shipping gas quantities (whether from his own production, purchased from producers/importers or has imported himself) for his own use or to be supplied to the domestic market upon payment of a tariff determined by the Gas Regulator.
  • Supplier : License granted to a legal entity to Supply and sell his own gas or gas owned by others to eligible consumers.
